Liverpool Vs Chelsea Predictions – News, Odds & Stats

Liverpool vs Chelsea predictions are not the same this time around with both teams struggling for form. Normally, this fixture would be a top four clash, but how the mighty have fallen! In Liverpool’s last game, they were smashed 3-0 by a top class Brighton outfit. Chelsea on the other hand, scraped past Crystal Palace 1-0, to finally claim their first 3 points of 2023.
Klopp and Potter are under pressure to say the least, as Liverpool sit 9th in the table and Chelsea are placed 10th. Consequently, this game is huge for both clubs in the race for a Champions League spot.
I’m predicting a tight affair in this fixture, as both teams are struggling for goals. Chelsea have only scored a meagre 22 goals all season, while Liverpool have many key forwards, such as Firmino, Jota and Diaz out injured. Our Liverpool Vs Chelsea betting tips and predictions think that it will be a low scoring game, perhaps even a 0-0, but let’s hope we are wrong!
Key Takeaways:
- Liverpool are currently 9th, 10 points off the top four
- My match predictions of Liverpool Vs Chelsea favour a draw
- Chelsea sit in 10th, also 10 points adrift of the Champions League spots
- This will be the first time Potter will face Liverpool as Chelsea manager
- Liverpool have lost their last two games, conceding six goals
- Chelsea’s new £88m signing Mudryk is expected to make his debut.
Team News
Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo is expected to make his Premier League debut, alongside Salah up top. There are so many injury concerns at the Reds, it’s difficult to know where to start. In the forward position, Colombian winger Diaz will not return until March, whereas Jota and Firmino are expected back in February. Moreover, talisman Van Dijk got injured against Brentford on January 6th and will not feature for Liverpool until February time.
Nunez did not play in Brighton’s 3-0 drubbing, but Klopp has claimed in media reports that he is “very close to recovery”. Whether he will start or come off the bench remains to be seen, so from here we can assume Oxlaide Chamberlain will start once again.
The Chelsea injury list is quite large too, not to mention Joao Felix’s 3 match ban for a straight red card against Fulham. In the attacking positions, Sterling and Pulisic are both ruled out, while defensively, Chelsea are still without Kante, Reece James, Fofana and Mendy.
This week, Chelsea’s second most expensive signing ever, Mudryk was stolen at the 11th hour from Arsenal. He is expected to make his full debut, alongside Kai Havertz and Ziyech. Their other new signing, Badiashile should keep his place in the centre of defence alongside Thiago Silva.
As there are many injuries to key players in both sides, this will without doubt affect our Liverpool Vs Chelsea predictions. However, new players will be given a chance, such as 18 year old Lewis Hall at Chelsea, and for Liverpool, Gakpo will be hoping to open his account on his home Premier League debut. Hopefully we will see an attacking game, with plenty of shots, but the stats say otherwise…
The Stats
Potter and Klopp have faced off 6 times in the Premier League, but only when Liverpool played Brighton when Potter was the manager. In their last meeting, it was quite the goalfest where Liverpool and Brighton drew 3-3.
However, Potter’s Chelsea career has not gone to plan so far. Since the World Cup, Potter and his Chelsea team have been struggling, winning only one match in 5, drawing 1 and losing the other 3.
Liverpool’s run of form is not much better either. In their past 5 games, they have won 3 and lost 2. If they lose to Chelsea on Saturday it will be their 3rd loss on the bounce, something that hasn’t happened to Liverpool since January 2017!
This fixture is the lowest Chelsea and Liverpool have been for years. Last campaign, both clubs performed well, finishing in the top four and both reaching the FA Cup and League Cup final. Which interestingly, was the previous two times Liverpool and Chelsea played one another.
Both sides are nowhere near that level this season. If you do remember, both those cup finals ended in 0-0s with Liverpool winning each time on penalties. Therefore, our Liverpool Vs Chelsea betting tips closely mirror their last two matches, I’ll be amazed if this fixture produces more than 2.5 goals.
Notably, their last meeting in the Premier League ended in a 2-2 draw in January 2022. The reverse fixture last season also resulted in a 1-1 draw. So you know what I am going to say for my Liverpool Vs Chelsea predictions; it has a draw written all over it!
Liverpool Vs Chelsea Betting Predictions
When I make my Liverpool Vs Chelsea predictions, I check with all the best bookmakers first for the highest odds. As previously stated, I believe this game, although important, will be a stalemate, and if any side is to win the match it will only be 1-0 to either side.
Thus, I like the under 1.5 goal market at BETUK, which is fairly priced at 17/5, but just as a hedge, if there are goals, I am also backing the draw at the same bookmaker at 3/1.
Personally, I am not touching the first goalscorer or anytime goalscorer markets, but one market that I am interested in is the half of the first goal. I think the first half will be cagey, with both teams trying to figure each other out. Because of this, there’s plenty of value in betting on the first goal to be in the second half, and at 14/5 at Coral, it’s worth a punt.
One exciting market that is now offered is the method of the first goal. As I believe this will be a closely contested game, set pieces will play an important role in my Liverpool Vs Chelsea betting tips. Hence I reckon a header at 9/2 or a penalty at 6/1 with William Hill could certainly be a fruitful wager.
Overall, both teams need a win, but I still think this fixture will be a draw. What do you think? For certain whoever wins will fancy their top four hopes, while the losers will have a mountain to climb.
